Size
Every line is a fraction of the short edge, so the pattern looks the same at 1080p and at 6K.
Other patterns
Drafting paper, not a photograph
A blueprint background is a flat ground, lines on a coarse pitch, a small cross at every crossing and a double border round the sheet. This page draws all four at the size you ask for, so the border sits the same distance in on a phone wallpaper and on a 6K one.
The crosses are what make it read as drafting paper. Band lines alone are a coarse grid; the crosses are the registration marks a drawing is set out against, and they land on every fifth intersection in both directions.
The blue, and seven other colours
Blueprint is the obvious palette and the default on this page is not the only option. Carbon and Slate are the ones to use behind a screenshot of a dark interface. Paper turns the same drawing into a sheet from a flat file, with the lines darker than the ground.
PNG or SVG
The PNG is painted in this tab, at the size in the dock, with no watermark and no sign up. The SVG is the better file for anything that gets resized later: it is three paths and two rectangles, and it scales to any size with the hairlines intact.
Behind a recording
Prequel ships this drawing as one of seven backgrounds in its editor, redrawn at the export's own resolution. Record your Mac's screen, and the editor opens with the zooms already placed, your camera framed and a background behind it.
How it works
Drawing in 3 steps
- Pick the blue, or another oneEight palettes drawn as the sheet itself. Blueprint is the obvious one; Carbon and Slate sit behind a dark screenshot.
- Set the size and the pitchSizes run to a 6K display. The slider sets the grid the band lines and the crosses are laid out on.
- Download itPNG at the size in the dock, or SVG for anything that gets resized or recoloured later.
What it does
Free, and still worth using
Get the border in the right place
A double rule set in from the edge, redrawn per size. On a tiled image that border lands wherever the tile happens to end.
Read it as a technical drawing
The crosses are the registration marks a drawing is set out against, on every fifth intersection in both directions. Band lines on their own read as a coarse grid.
Fit any shape of sheet
Landscape, portrait or square, with the pitch and the margin as fractions of the short edge. Nothing is stretched and nothing is cropped.
Keep the file off a server
Drawn in this tab and saved from this tab. Nothing is uploaded and there is no watermark on it.
On a Mac, the editing is already done
Prequel records your screen at its full resolution, then opens an editor with the zooms already placed, your camera framed and a background applied. Export one MP4 at up to 4K.
No credit card required
- Zooms placed on every click

FAQ
Colours, sizes and the files
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no card, no watermark and no limit on how many sheets you draw.
Can I get white lines on blue, like a real blueprint?
The Blueprint palette is light lines on a deep blue ground, which is the look people mean. Paper inverts it into a sheet from a flat file, with dark lines on cream.
Can I use it behind a screenshot?
Yes, and Carbon or Slate are the palettes for it. The lines are hairlines at the size you pick, so they stay under the picture rather than competing with it.
PNG or SVG?
PNG for a wallpaper or a slide. SVG for anything that will be scaled, printed or recoloured, since it is five elements and a few kilobytes.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. It is your file, with no watermark and no attribution asked for.
Why does Prequel have a blueprint page?
Because this sheet is one of seven backgrounds in Prequel's editor, redrawn at the export's own resolution. This page is the same drawing with a download button attached.
