Generate an isometric grid online
Uprights and two families of lines at thirty degrees, which are the three axes of an isometric drawing. Pick a colour and a size.

Size
Every line is a fraction of the short edge, so the pattern looks the same at 1080p and at 6K.

Three directions, one grid
An isometric grid is uprights plus two families of lines at thirty degrees, and the three together give you the axes of a box drawn in isometric projection. Sketch on it and a cube takes one minute. Put it behind a screenshot and it reads as depth without anything in the picture moving.
The lines run corner to corner across the whole frame, so there is no seam and nothing tiles. The pitch is measured perpendicular to the lines, which is the spacing your eye actually reads, and the Grid slider sets it against the frame's short edge.
Any shape of frame
Pick a 9:16 phone size and the grid is the same pitch it was in landscape, with more lines crossing the frame. Nothing is stretched, because nothing is resampled: the drawing is worked out again for the size you asked for.
PNG or SVG
The PNG is painted here at the size in the dock and saved to your downloads folder. The SVG is a single path, which makes it a few kilobytes and makes it easy to recolour by hand in Figma or Illustrator afterwards.
Behind a recording
Prequel ships this grid as one of seven drawn backgrounds in its editor, redrawn at the export's own resolution. Record your Mac's screen, and the editor opens with the zooms already placed, your camera framed and a background behind it.
How it works
Drawing in 3 steps
- Pick the colourEight palettes, drawn as the grid itself so you can see how heavy the lines read against the ground.
- Set the pitch and the sizeThe slider sets the spacing against the frame's short edge. Sizes run from 1080p to a 6K display.
- Download itPNG at the size in the dock, or SVG to sketch over in Figma or Illustrator.
What it does
Free, and still worth using
Draw a box in one minute
The three directions are the three axes of an isometric projection, at the angles they are meant to be. Sketch along them and the geometry is already right.
Get a field with no seam
Every line runs corner to corner across the whole frame. A tiled grid shows its joins wherever the tile does not divide the frame.
Keep the spacing you set
The pitch is measured perpendicular to the lines, which is the gap your eye reads, and it is a fraction of the short edge. Portrait and landscape read the same.
Keep the file off a server

On a Mac, the editing is already done
Prequel records your screen at its full resolution, then opens an editor with the zooms already placed, your camera framed and a background applied. Export one MP4 at up to 4K.
No credit card required
- Zooms placed on every click

FAQ
Angles, pitch and the files
Is it free?
Yes. No account, no card and no watermark on the file.
Is it true isometric?
Yes. The two slanted families are at 30 and 150 degrees with uprights between them, which is the isometric convention. Lines drawn along them share one scale.
Can I sketch on it?
Take the SVG into Figma, Illustrator or Sketch, lock it as the bottom layer and draw over it. It is one path, so it selects and locks in one click.
Can I change the angle?
Not on this page. The SVG is one path of straight segments, so a rotation in any vector editor is a transform on a single object.
Can I use it commercially?
Yes. It is your file, with no watermark and no attribution asked for.
Why does Prequel have an isometric grid page?
Because this grid is one of seven backgrounds in Prequel's editor, redrawn at the export's own resolution. This page is the same drawing with a download button attached.
