Image
Edited and saved in this tab. Nothing is uploaded. Saves as PNG.
Paste, mark, copy
The fastest path through this page has no files in it. Take a screenshot with Command Shift 4, paste it here with Command V, drag out an arrow, press Copy, and paste the result into Slack. Nothing was saved to disk and nothing was uploaded.
Your browser does all of it. The image is read with a FileReader, drawn into a canvas on your machine, and read back out as a PNG when you ask for it. There is no account, no watermark and no extension to install.
The marks
Five pens, each sized against the image rather than set in pixels, so a mark on a 5K capture is as visible as one on a small crop.
- Arrow points at the thing you are describing.
- Rectangle puts a box around it.
- Highlighter multiplies into the picture, so the words under it stay readable instead of going grey.
- Redact pixelates the region into blocks. The export is made from that canvas, so the original pixels are not in the file you download, which is not true of a blur.
- Text drops a label with a dark halo behind it, so it reads on a light screenshot and a dark one.
Select any mark to move it, recolour it or delete it. Command Z steps back.
The ground
Six backgrounds from the Prequel palette, with padding, a corner radius and a shadow under the picture. The screenshot itself is never scaled to fit: the export is your original pixels with the padding around them, so small text comes out as sharp as it was captured.
When a still is not enough
A screenshot shows the state something was in. A recording shows how it got there. Prequel records your Mac's screen as video, places the zooms on every click, frames your camera and exports at up to 4K.
How it works
Recording in 4 steps
- Bring a screenshot inPaste one with Command V, drag an image onto the panel, or open a file. Nothing is uploaded.
- Mark it upArrows, rectangles, a highlighter, text, and a redaction that pixelates what is under it. Undo with Command Z.

- Copy or downloadCopy puts the PNG straight on your clipboard, ready to paste into Slack or a ticket. Download saves it at full size.
What it does
Free, and still worth using
Go from screenshot to posted in one paste
Take a shot with Command Shift 4, paste it here, mark it up and copy it out. No file is written to disk unless you ask for one.
Point at the thing you are talking about
Arrows, outlined rectangles and a highlighter that multiplies rather than greys out the words underneath. Five colours, sized against the image so a mark never vanishes on a Retina capture.
Hide what should not be in the picture
Redact pixelates the region into blocks and the export is made from that canvas, so the original pixels are not in the file you download.
Make it look placed rather than grabbed
Six grounds from the Prequel palette, with padding, a corner radius and a shadow. All of it is drawn into the file.
Keep every pixel you started with
The screenshot is never scaled to fit a frame. The export is your original pixels with the padding around them, so small text stays as sharp as it was captured.
Edit without an account
No sign up, no upload, no watermark, and no extension to install. Close the tab and the image is gone.
On a Mac, the editing is already done
Prequel records your screen at its full resolution, then opens an editor with the zooms already placed, your camera framed and a background applied. Export one MP4 at up to 4K.
No credit card required
- Zooms placed on every click
- Camera shaped, sized and framed
- Background, padding and shadow
- Microphone and system on separate gains

FAQ
Marks, privacy and the file
Is my screenshot uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is read by your browser, drawn into a canvas on your machine and read back out as a PNG. Nothing in the page can send it, and closing the tab discards it.
Can I paste a screenshot straight in?
Yes. Take one with Command Shift 4 on a Mac or the Snipping Tool on Windows, then paste with Command V or Control V anywhere on the page. Dragging an image onto the panel and opening a file both work too.
Does the redaction really remove the information?
It pixelates the region into large blocks and draws them back over the picture, and the export is made from that canvas, so the original pixels are not in the file you download. It is not a blur, which can sometimes be undone.
What resolution is the export?
Your screenshot's own, plus the padding you added. The image is never scaled down to fit a frame, so small text in the export is exactly as sharp as it was in the capture.
Can I copy the result straight into Slack?
Yes. Copy puts a PNG on your clipboard, so it pastes into Slack, a ticket, a document or an email. Chrome, Edge and Safari all take it, and Download is there for the browser that will not.
Can I undo a mark?
Command Z steps back through the marks, and selecting one and pressing Backspace removes it. Click a mark with the Select tool to move it, or pick another colour to recolour it.
Does it work on any image, or only screenshots?
Any image your browser can open: PNG, JPEG, WebP and GIF. A photo takes a background and a shadow the same way a screenshot does.
What does Prequel do beyond this?
Prequel records your Mac's screen as video, places the zooms on every click, frames your camera and exports at up to 4K. This page is for the times a still is enough.
