Download Twitter and X videos online for free

Paste a link to a post and save its video as an MP4, at the size you pick. Old twitter.com links work as well as new ones.

Your browser downloads the video straight from X. Nothing passes through us.

Your file is saving

The Mac screen recorder that edits for you

Record, and the editor opens with the zooms already placed, your camera framed and a background behind it. Export one MP4 at up to 4K, rendered on your own Mac.

No credit card required

Free for 7 days. No watermark on anything you export.

A tweet from 2018 and a post from last week are the same record with the same number on the end of the URL. Renaming the site did not renumber anything, so a twitter.com link in an old bookmark folder, a Slack archive or a document written years ago points exactly where it always did.

That matters here more than it sounds like it should. Most links people want to save a video from are not fresh — they are something somebody sent a while ago and is only now worth keeping.

Reading a tweet without an account

This page asks for the tweet the way any site that embeds one does: the public view, the same thing a logged-out visitor sees. No key, no login, nothing stored about which tweets have been looked at.

The limit of that approach is the useful part of it. If a logged-out visitor cannot see the tweet, neither can this page — so a protected account stays protected, and the page says the tweet is unreachable instead of trying harder.

Several files, not one

Twitter stores a tweet's video more than once, at different sizes, so it can send a sensible one to a phone on a train and a sharp one to a desktop. Both are still sitting there.

All of them are offered. Take the largest if the clip is going into something you are editing. Take a smaller one if it is going into a slide or a message, where a fifth of the size looks identical and sends instantly.

The file is not re-encoded

What downloads is the file Twitter is serving, unchanged. Nothing is converted on the way through, which is why there is no quality setting to get wrong, no watermark, and no wait while something re-compresses.

Where the rights sit

The file is yours to keep; the video is not yours to claim. Saving a clip to watch later, to quote, or to reference in something you are making is ordinary. Re-uploading somebody's work as though you made it is not, and that is true whatever produced the file.

If the video is one you are making

This page is for video that already exists somewhere. If you are recording it — a product demo, a walkthrough, a bug worth showing someone — Prequel captures your Mac's screen straight to MP4 at up to 4K and 120 fps, and hands you an editor with the zooms already placed and the camera framed.

How it works

Downloading in 3 steps

  1. Copy the link to the postUse Copy link on the post. An x.com address and an older twitter.com one both work, and the tracking parameters on the end are ignored.
  2. Paste it in and find the videoThe post is looked up and every size its video was stored at is listed, biggest first.
  3. Pick a sizeThe file downloads to your machine, named after the account and the post so it is findable later.

What it does

Free, and still worth using

Save at the size you want

A post's video is stored several times over at different sizes. All of them are offered, so a clip for a slide need not be the full 1080p file.

The video does not pass through us

We read the post and hand your browser the addresses the video already sits at. It travels from their servers to yours and is never copied onto ours.

Old links are not broken links

The rename changed the address bar, not the posts. twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com and x.com all point at the same thing and all three are accepted.

Nothing is re-encoded

What you get is the file being served, byte for byte. There is no quality setting to get wrong, no watermark and no wait while something re-compresses.

Looping clips too

What a post shows as a GIF is stored as a silent video, and that is the file you get rather than a conversion of it.

Nothing to sign up for

No account, no email and nothing kept once the page is closed.

On a Mac, the editing is already done

Prequel records your screen at its full resolution, then opens an editor with the zooms already placed, your camera framed and a background applied. Export one MP4 at up to 4K.

No credit card required

  • Zooms placed on every click
  • Camera shaped, sized and framed
  • Background, padding and shadow
  • Microphone and system on separate gains
  • Cursor smoothed and resized

FAQ

Old links, private posts and file sizes

Do twitter.com links still work now the site is called X?

Yes. The rename changed the address, not the posts. A link from an old bookmark, a Slack thread or a document written years ago resolves here exactly as a fresh one does.

Which posts can it not download?

Anything that is not public. A protected account's posts, a deleted post, one from a suspended account and an age-restricted post all come back as unreachable, because this reads a post the same way any website embedding it does.

Why is the biggest size sometimes 720p and not 1080p?

Because that is as large as the video was ever stored. What gets listed is what is actually being served for that post, which depends on the original upload rather than on this page.

Does the video go through your server?

No. We look up the post and send your browser the file addresses on their own video host, and your browser downloads from there. The only thing that reaches us is the link you paste.

Is a watermark added?

No. The file is passed through untouched, so nothing is added to it and nothing is lost from it.

Can I download someone else's video and post it myself?

That is between you and the person who made it. Saving a video to watch, to quote or to keep is ordinary use; reposting someone's work as your own is not, whatever tool produced the file.

Why did a very long video open in a tab instead of saving?

Files above about 600 MB are too large to assemble inside a browser tab, so the video opens instead. Right-click it and choose Save Video As, which does the same thing without the memory.

Is there a version of this for my own recordings?

Prequel records your Mac's screen straight to MP4, at up to 4K and 120 fps, and opens an editor on the take with the zooms already placed.
