How to cancel Tella
Tella's cancel button is in Stripe, only workspace owners can reach it, and export stops working when the subscription does. Where to click, what the refund policy covers, and why the 30-day notice story is out of date. Checked 5 October 2026.
Tella's cancel button is not where you would look for it, and the one thing to do before you press it is export. This page was checked against Tella's help centre, pricing page and refund policy on 5 October 2026.
Where to cancel
Tella's help centre, on its page for cancelling, says to:
- Open your workspace name and go to Settings.
- Choose Plans and Billing, then Manage. That opens the Stripe portal.
- In Stripe, choose Cancel subscription.
The button is in Stripe, not in Tella. Tella says only workspace owners can open the Stripe portal. If you are a member and not the owner, the owner has to do it. On a free trial there is nothing to cancel.
The 30-day notice story is out of date
You may have read that Tella needs 30 days' notice by email. That came from a review in 2024 and is not what Tella says now. Its pricing page: "Can I cancel at any time? Yes. Your subscription stops at the end of the current billing period, and you will not be charged for the next one." Its refund policy says you can cancel at any time from your account settings.
You cannot pause
Tella's help centre: "No. Tella doesn't offer a way to pause a subscription." Your options are to keep paying or to cancel.
What happens when you cancel
You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. After that: "Your videos aren't deleted. ... you can still view and share them, but you can't record, edit, or export until you subscribe again."
Export first. The sharp edge is that export stops with the subscription. Export or batch-export every video you want as a file before the period ends, because afterwards the video is on Tella's page and not in a folder on your Mac.
Refunds
Tella's refund policy is more generous than most:
- First purchase: "You can request a full refund within 14 days of your initial purchase, no questions asked." This applies only to first-time purchases.
- Billing errors.
- Technical problems: problems that prevented you from using Tella that its support team was unable to resolve.
- Accidental renewal: reported within 7 days.
Refunds take 5 to 10 business days. Contact Tella before you start a chargeback with your bank.
Two ways people pay twice
A second login is a second workspace, and each workspace bills separately. Tella says two logins for the same person cannot be merged. The details are in can't find your Tella recording. Cancel the one you do not use, not only the one you do.
Compared with other tools
Loom and Screen Studio cancel somewhere else and refund less: how to cancel Loom has two separate routes, and how to cancel Screen Studio runs through Lemon Squeezy with no refund. The cancel button in every screen recorder puts them side by side.
Before you leave, it may help to know what a Tella plan costs and what its exports allow.
What you pay for in Prequel
Prequel is $9 a month, or $29 once. The one-off licence has nothing to renew and nothing to cancel, and exports to your own Mac are never counted, never expire and have no limit. See pricing and the Tella page.

Try it for 7 days, and export a file you own.
Prequel needs an Apple Silicon Mac on macOS 14 or later. Download Prequel for Mac and try it free for 7 days, with no watermark on anything you export. After that it is $9 a month or $29 once. See what it costs.
