Recording
Screen, window or area
The three ways to choose what gets recorded.
Three modes
The first group of buttons on the dock chooses what to record.
- Entire screen records a whole display. With more than one display, you pick which in the overlay.
- Window records one window, wherever it moves.
- Area records a rectangle you draw on the screen.
The dock shows the current choice beside the mode once you have made one, for instance Window · Safari.

The overlay
Choosing a mode dims the screen and puts an overlay over each display.
Entire screen shows a card naming the display and its size in pixels, with a Start recording button.
Window highlights whichever window is under the pointer, with its app icon and name. Click to choose it, or press Start recording on the highlighted window to begin at once. Windows with no title show as Untitled window.
Area asks you to drag a rectangle. Release to confirm it. You can then drag the edges to adjust, or drag inside to move it, before you start.
Press Esc at any point to cancel and go back to the dock.
What the pointer looks like
By default the pointer is recorded as its own layer, so you can restyle, resize or hide it afterwards in the editor. If you would rather have the pointer baked into the frames exactly as it appeared, turn on Bake the pointer into the recording in Settings. See Settings.
Frequently asked questions

- Yes. Choose Area and drag a rectangle. Drag its edges to adjust or drag inside to move it before you start.
- How do I cancel choosing a source?
- Press Esc while the overlay is up. It also cancels the countdown once a source is chosen.
